Terence started writing in the early 1970s when he was still living at home in Liverpool before he started drama college. These early works include shortstories, monologues, and novellas, which currently remain unpublished. It wasn't until he was at Coventry Drama School that he wrote his first screenplay that would become Children, now known as the first film of The Terence Davies Trilogy. In 1984, Terence wrote and published his first full novel Hallelujah Now (currently out of print). From the mid-1980s, Terence also began to write poetry, which he continued throughout his life until his last poem, The Blue Veil, in March 2023.  From the 1990s onwards he was working an his autobiography, Adventures in Celluloid, which was not completed.
